Union mines minister Narendra Singh Tomar has called a meeting with his state counterparts to discuss key issues in the mining sector such as states’ mining auction preparedness and setting up of District Mineral Foundation (DMF), curbing illegal mining, and the responsibility of state governments to establish certification and monitoring of mining plans. ACME has received the largest share of solar energy projects in Andhra Pradesh and will be able to provide power at Rs. 4.43 per unit. ACME’s portfolio now includes 310 MW in Andhra. The Solar Rooftop project, initiated by the Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA), will be launched to provide grid-connected rooftop solar power units. Haryana has instituted a District Level Clearance Committee (DLCC) for easier facilitation of investment coming in. The DLCC will be able to clear projects with investment up to $1.5 million or up to one acre of land. Source: Times of India

Karnataka is punishing restaurants/bars that serve alcohol under a 2003 rule that requires these establishments to procure at least 132 gallons of liquor per month. This penalty has affected over 150 restaurants that serve alcohol, and the licenses to serve alcohol will not be renewed till the penalties are paid.

The Maharashtra government signed a MoU with 3D design company Autodesk in order to support local micro, small and medium enterprises in the manufacturing sector. Autodesk will provide free cloud-based software for the design and manufacturing needs of the local businesses that are registered and have an annual turnover of less than $150,000. Maharashtra has fast-tracked infrastructure projects works $7.5 billion under the revised land acquisition policy. This policy was framed under the center’s land acquisition act that offers five times the reckoner rate for the land, and has the choice of providing employment rather than a one-time compensation for project-affected persons (PAPs). The Maharashtra revenue department has directed that Wakf properties that have been illegally transferred, sold or leased, be re-registered under Wakf property.
