Douglas Ramage, who now advises AusAID but was for many years the Asia Foundation’s chief representative in Jakarta, was at CSIS on Friday to speak about governance challenges in Indonesia. Ramage is one of the most eloquent and insightful analysts of Indonesian politics, and we were happy to host him. Below, he explains that Indonesia has made great democratic gains over the past decade, but faces challenges to the consolidation of those gains:
